“BUSY BUILDER”

1ST PLACE IN BIRDS

Penduline tits build the most unique nests out of all Polish birds, I always wanted to showcase the process these tiny bird go through building those sock-like nests but always struggled to find the perfect one. This time the luck was on my side, just at the side of a boardwalk I spotted my 8th nest of the day, It was in a perfect distance to showcase the environment those birds live in and I managed to use soem bushes in the foreground to remove some distracting elements. I was so happy when I saw I had captured the male as it was leaving the nest to bring in more material!

“MISTY MORNING”

HIGHLY COMMENDED IN BIRDS

It was the last morning of my Iceland trip. Me and my friend got up at 2, after only 1,5hs of sleep and drove to this spot hoping for the mist. When we arrived at the location We went down to the water level to shoot red-throated divers, my foot fell in the water but it didn’t stop me from shooting. Aftr a while I looked up and saw a pair of tufted ducks swimming to the right of the diver. I raised my camera up and shot through some vegetation to hopefully get some cool textures. This image is a result of this session.

“MUSKETEERS”

HIGHLY COMMENDED IN GENERAL

Two days before taking that photograph I torn my anterior talofibular ligament. But my friend called me and told me that she has some amazing spot for common snipes. They were my dream species at the time so, not thinking much I told my friend, who also is a wildlife photographer, that if he doesn’t take my and my cruthes to Biebrza National Park I’ll drive there with a taxi. So After quick MRI of my leg we were of to shot some birds. It wasn’t easy walking on cruthes through the marsh but with some help I lied down near a small pond and got covered by my camo net. After 3 hours of nothing When the light was just perfect 3 snipes landed near me. The calmness of the water allowed me to include the reflection also.

“NATURES BALLET”

HIGHLY COMMENDED IN YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER CATEGORY U19

I was photographing dunlins on the shore of Baltic Sea when I spotted a big flock of around 70 black-headed gulls hunting near me. I slowly crawled up to them. It was 2 hours before sunset so the light was still harsh, but I really wanted to capture this behavior backlit to show of water droplets when the gulls emerged from the water with their prey. I kept my iso down knowing that I’ll increase the exposure in the shadows in post production, and kept my shutter speed at 1/8000s to freeze the action. I jumped from bird to bird with my lens trying to find the one which is separated from the group so the picture will be clean. I was pressing the shutter button all the time and after 20 minutes I had over 2000 images on my card. Later on when scrolling over the shots I found the one when one of the birds is in focus and coming out of the water with some kind of invertebrate, and another bird behind was just about to go into the water. It was a really monochromatic scene, but the light that was slowly getting better with time backlit the primaries of the gull with this beautiful orange light.

“CALMNESS”

1 Prize “Nagroda Marszałka Województwa Kujawsko-Pomorskiego, dla młodego fotografa przyrody”

Photohraphing at the seashore is on of my favourite things to do. You dont’t have to use camo, You can just photograph in your swin shorts, and that’s how this shot came about. I was with my friends on a trip to the sea and I decided to take the camera with me. I spotted this ryuff feeding and laid dwon on the sand on his path. He came close and started to rest in this small tide pool right in front of me. The wind calmed down so the water was still.
